Closing in on twilight, the shrine was about to close for the day as some devotees made their way up the long flight of stairs.
It is a well-known folktale that foxes love eating tofu pouches.
But not for this fox guardian. He does not like eating tofu one bit.
All he wanted to do was to light the way for the devotees up the dark stairs, but I guess his attempt to smile scared some away.
